Surface texture wizard?
What is it? what does it do? Have registered version of KS, says it's a Premium feature, but loads the interface.

Re: Surface texture wizard?
You load a grey scale image (or create a random-ish bitmap) and that is then "printed" on vertical walls.
It's possible to scale the image; it's "printed" by varying the extrusion of the perimeter (perimeter must be printed after loops).
I tested it on a 2 cm cube with my avatar; I was very pleased with the result, but it's probably not something I would use all the time.

I thought it might be something like velocity painting.

I looked for the photo earlier, but couldn't find it.. Then I had a thought. It was still on my phoneMacBain68 wrote:Can you post a picture of this test cube?

Please note that these are very early tests, so do not show up as well as with later KISS versions.

Re: Surface texture wizard?
Hi Peter,
This looks great.
I have been playing with this on the Alpha (Premium) for the past few days, and no matter what I do, I cannot get it to apply anything to the finished objects.
I have tried it on objects with curved and flat surfaces.
I've tried -
Noise only
Image only
0, 50, 100% blend
Scale of both from 1 to 100mm
0 to 100% strength
Sharpen from 0 to 5
Even tried the "Only Enclosing Perimeters" option - nothing.
I get lovely prints, but no texturing is applied.
Nothing seems to make a difference despite there being a really high contrast image in the right hand pane.
Is there a setting somewhere that needs flipping to turn it on?
I know this is an Alpha, but as KS is so complex, I suspect I'm just being dumb. Any ideas?
I can supply screenshots of settings, etc., if required.
Thanks,
Susi.

It's been a long time since I did those prints (I think it was using 1.63 alpha/test version), I can't remember just what I did; all I know is that it just worked.
I will have a look to remind myself and get back to you.

It's the "Strength" setting. For me, when I set the strength > 0, all the windows turn bright magenta and I get the pattern on the output G-code.
I use Craftware to view the G-code (the texture is not displayed in KISS):
This is with 100% Strength. I will print it out to see the finished result.

Re: Surface texture wizard?
Here the settings:
Texture Wizard:
Style:
Loop1 must be before Perimeter; the perimeter has additional material extruded, so it must have a loop to prevent inward extrusion.

Re: Surface texture wizard?
Interesting. I didn't realize it's done by increasing extrusion, I thought it actually changes perimeter path. That would be more complex, probably more effective, but definitely less interesting. Still haven't tried it.
