Bowden settings

Post by plexus »

I just converted my PB+ to a bowden feed using E3D's bowden kit. I use 3mm filament. I have never used a bowden fed printer before. I am seeing the results of filament hysteresis causing ooze etc. Can you recommend some settings I can use to manage the hysteresis and ooze?

thanks

It heavily depends on your extruder type.
We use 5..7 mm retraction, anyway.

Davide,

I just put on an E3D Chimera Dual Exruder Hot End and the instructions say to avoid retractions above 3mm, but I find 4mm gives me better results. At 4mm I still get strings, but they are reduced. I think I'll be looking for jams if I go above 5mm with this hot end.

What hot end do you put on your printers and what speed do you retract and prime? I wonder if some hot ends are better at reducing strings?

I know dialing in the lowest possible extrusion temp also helps w/ strings, but every manufacturer, color, etc is different so I'd like to attack the issue up front as best I can.
