Gaps at start of each extrusion

Post by paulnd »

Hi,

I'll be grateful if anyone can help me with this problem please? The 1st few mm of each extrusion seems to be missing causing this pattern on all my prints. I have turned off destringing thinking that it was possibly a suck and prime issue

OK. Gaps where? Without having the model or an annotated screen shot showing where the problem is and a listing of the machine/firmware you are using, it is near to impossible to arrive at any relevant answer at all. Some Destring/Prime-Suck operations happen by default, depending upon the firmware. If you are on a Bowden Cable set up, the inherent hysteresis will cause this issue, because the actuator is so far from the point where the action needs to take place. There is significant slop in those types of systems and the Prime-Suck values need to be increased substantially to counteract the deficiency in that system. So, disabling Destring may have exacerbated the problem, not fixed it.

Apologies, the important bit of the photo was cut off, shouldn't be posting at 2am....

Here's a slightly better photo

I enabled destringing and the prime can be seen on the left corner, then there's a gap and then the filament is extruded as blobs before a constant stream is extruded.

I'm using a flex3drive extruder http://mutley3d.com/Flex3Drive/ and adjusted the backlash
