it can be made to work okay right now, but i can't help but think there has to be a better way. right now the vertical separation can't be made greater (or even quite as much as) than layer thickness, for one thing. and horizontal separation is constantly changing, depending on the angle of overhang of the part. what i envision is having a uniform "shell" thickness around the model, where the support will come all the way up to the shell, but not inside it. this way you can have uniform separation between model and support on all sides and flat overhangs, regardless of the angle of overhang.
maybe it's not this easy, but i wish it was!
