Skin thickness changes and concentric top/bottom infill

Two things I would like to see specifically...

1) Separate skin thickness between bottom, top, and perimeters. This is easily my biggest gripe with KISSlicer.

2) Add concentric infill option for top and bottom layers.

I'm glad others agree with this. It is really frustrating to have to make the skin thickness divisible by both the layer thickness and extrusion width to get "perfect" parts with no rounding errors. Because of this every part I make ends up have 4 top and bottom layers and 2 perimeters (example...layer height: 0.22mm, extrusion width: 0.44mm, skin thickness: 0.88mm). The parts come out great, but I feel like I have no control.

One other thing I really want (more so than concentric infill actually)...manual placement of parts around the build plate.

Thanks for all the hard work on what I still think is the best slicer out there...just wish I could throw away the others I need to use to have some of these features.

+1 I too would really appreciate thickness skin controls as you mention. I have asked for them in the past.

Perhaps you could post this as a separate feature request since it might get more attention? I would love to be able to place parts manually around the build plate.

And the Prime Pillar as well, while we're at it. Sometimes, I have a large torus and would like to place the Prime Pillar in the center of it, as opposed to outside; which just makes the travel way more extensive than it really needs to be.

+1 on skin thickness changes
+1000 on concentric top/bottom!

I design and print these fly fishing reels on a Rostock Max KISS for slicing:

I spend most of my time on the SeeMeCNC forum (I'm an admin there) and have written extensively over the past few years on 3D printing, including my recent A Strategy for Successful (and Great) Prints (not unique to delta printers, useful info for all).

I am very persnickety about the external appearance of my parts - all surfaces; top, sides, and bottom. I've spent an inordinate amount of time experimenting, testing and thinking about how to improve. KISS is my goto slicer and I've tested every other slicer out there (and continue to do so) and for my work (see photo as an example) none can come close to the aesthetics I can finagle out of KISS.

I've even developed techniques for designing in top and bottom layer visual features - I call "slice embossing" to coerce the slicer to do my bidding. Here's an example:

Image
You can see how I isolated the large holes with a .5mm wide by .4mm deep groove. The effect is quite nice ivisually, it is difficult to photograph well.

Since KISS does not do concentric fills, I have resorted to doing two (or more) slices on some parts and then combining the layers into a single file to "fake" concentric top and bottom fill! The way I do this is to do one slice with say 14 perimeters (this is what gives me the effect I'm trying to achieve) and the second slice with 4 perimeters and 33% curved infill (for translucent PLA or straight infill for opaque PLA. I then copy and paste the bottom and top 3 layers from the 14 perimeter file into the 4 perimeter file. It is actually a little more complex than this since there are multiple parts combined onto one platter and some parts have more than one top surface (plateaus). Think of the time I would save if I could do concentric fills!

I am also very persnickety about the structural elements on my parts. These fly reels have skinny posts, rotating features, a click check mechanism and must be strong and precise to work properly. You can see how these 3D printed fly reels perform on a video published earlier this week by Field & Stream magazine. Even I was blown away by the size of fish they were catching on it! I use similar techniques to coax KISS to create the internal structure I need.

Cheers,
Michael

I'm new in printing. Played with kisslicer for few days. I't pretty good - guess, better than other slicers I've tried. Stumbled upon this post and thought "wow, I had exactly same difficulties". And here I've noticed date of post - 07 Jan 2015. Three years without 8 days. Look like there is no hope for improvements...

+1 to separating Skin Thickness for horizontal and vertical!

Check this out: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2333
This is from the latest alpha and it's still broken and produces undesirable results!
