The Cubex manual states that you can print in ABS and PLA. Is this limited materials list only because that's all they made their cartridges in? Or is the printer physically not able to print in other materials because of certain settings? Is there a list of which materials could be printed on any 3d printer and the preferred settings for each material? I am very new to this and trying to learn what the machine is really capable of doing.

Officially the CubeX is only designed to print in PLA and ABS.
But, using Kisslicer and Cubitmod let's you use any material you want.
People are printing in wood filament, PETG, HIPS and so on. Even FLEX... Giovanni did make some testing on the X.
Only be aware of the missing headbed can and will give some warping issues using ABS and ABS-like materials.
