Optimal Z height

Post by gastonfama »

Hello everybody.
Does anyone ever thought about the optimal Z height, product of the multiplicity of the steps of the z motor?
To be more specific, the height (0.2mm for example) should be a multiplicity between the amount of steps of the z motor and the height of each turn of the threaded bar that moves the plate. If the height is not exact multiplier, I do not know what would happend, perhaps some software compensation, perhaps some good layers, some bad layers...
I found this usefull calculator http://prusaprinters.org/calculator/#optimallayer
But I can not find the pitch for the cubex. The steping motor seems to be a nema 23 with 200 steps.

Does anyone knows the pitch of the threaded bar?

Regards.

I had a discussion with Giovanni, earlier this year.
He mentioned that the stepper would prefer a height of 0.18 or 0.21 instead of 0.2...

With the Cubex you also better use 0.09 or 0.12 layer thickness because they are multiple of 0.03mm and one step of the z-axis motor makes 0.015mm.

Ok, then if one step of the z-axis motor makes 0.015mm, the optimal height near 0.2 would be 0.195 or 0.21...
That was exacltly the info I was needing.
Thank you.
