alternating number of outline/perimeter shells

Post by stefanharjes »

Hi there,

I had lots of problems with the connection between infill and model shell and after days of checking the machine/speed/infill overlap/nozzle had this idea: what if I could print one layer with one extrusion wide perimeter shell and the next layer two lines (extrusions) of model shell and alternate the outline thickness every layer. In layers where the model shell is larger by one line (extrusion) the shell would bind to the below infill. and when the infill is larger, it would bind to the model shell, thereby creating a strong bond which in some parts is either missing or requires slower printing speeds.

Regards

non touching infill is generally a machine configuration issue, usually backlash. If you print a cylinder, is it out of round or lopsided?

I think this is a great idea! It's now on the list, though it will probably be that every 3rd layer will reduce the number of loops by 1, so infill in both directions (90-degree rotation every layer) will have a chance to bond.

thanks,
Jonathan
