Object is welded to raft

Post by lme »

Hi!

Usually I print PLA objects just with a shirt directly to a glass bed coated with glue-stick.

Yesterday I was about to print a tall object with a small footprint and I decided to try a raft to prevent the object from tipping over.
It worked fine. The object was printed without problems.
But the raft is intensely connected to the object. It's nearly impossible to separate the object from the raft without breaking it.

Is there a trick to get a less intense connection between object and raft?

Thank's!

I use brim (dia.=3 - Ht=0'5) instead raft, with heated bed without glue.

The brim is easy to remove with a sandpaper.

I think its just the nature of PLA: it bonds to itself very well. The same problem occurs with support. The one way to reduce bonding would be to reduce extrusion temperature but at low enough temperatures to prevent excessive layer boding that could introduce other problems, such as not wanting to stick to the plate initially.

It's not always the fault of the PLA. With Slic3r you can get decent separation from the raft while providing enough sticking, but then again there are more things that I like in quality about KISS then slic3r, I also don't need raft most of the time (almost never).
It's the same thing with support, when dealing with horizontal planes with different heights (on one layer, it's fine, on another, it's not). You don't want your object to have its first layer drawn in the same direction as the support is drawn, it will make the first layer of object to fall down into the cracks of the support and stick better to it.

Thank you all!

I also thought about the brim feature and tried it.
Unfortunately the brim is located only on the outside of the object.
My object to print consicts of concentric thin circles.
It would be nice if KISSlicer would offer a possibility to extend a brim to the inner side or
some parameters for the raft (number of layers, density...)

For the moment I think I'll do a manual temperature reduction for the first object layer in conjunction with a raft.

Thank you!
