Re: KISSlicer 1.5 Beta 2 - in development
Wasn't repaired enough or competently. Lots of cruft on the flat cut poly that should have been eliminated. Shouldn't be trying to produce a raft anyway. There's enough surface area that a raft is redundant. Producing a raft, that then would require support to hold all of the overhangs, would seriously impact the model surface quality on the under side. The model is already sliced down the center for printing two halves without raft or support. For whatever dumb reason, Cut_1 isn't flipped to place the flat on the bed. Easy enough to flip it with the Transform Mesh menu.Shaeto wrote:kisslicer produces such raft:

okay, may be karambit model is not very good example
next issue: Kisslicer 2.20 does not exclude mesh from support/brim algorithms when mesh is set to Void in Extruder Mapping window

Re: KISSlicer 1.5 Beta 2 - in development
Has development stopped on 1.5 Beta? It's so close except for that nasty bug that generates unprintable gcode.
And, a job just came through and now I am experiencing the mac video bug. I get this flashing on and off during slicing. and when I bring a model in, I can't see it on the screen. ugh.
Update: tried re-starting. tried using an older version. all do not work. I am switching to Slic3r now because I have to get this job done. I will check back here over the years to see how Kisslicer is doing. too bad it's fallen to the wayside. it was a good slicer.

Plexus, I understand your disappointment.
As far as I know, KS works well on Windows and I have several customers that are happy with it.
On the other hand, Jonathan doesn't reply anymore to my mail messages...and I am starting to wonder if I am like flying on a 727...
Best Regards

Re: KISSlicer 1.5 Beta 2 - in development
Frankly speaking, I've tried them all before commiting to KS (Cura, Slic3r, Simplify).
No one is making REAL support.
If you are printing easy stuff, anything will do.
BUT if you don't want surprises you will slowly be forced to use KS.
Yes, Simplify lets you place manually the supports: when you commit to a 50h print and forget a silly (but important) surface to be supported the self inflicted wounds can be lethal.
Yes, Cura has ver good geometry tools, provision for double estrusion and the plugin approach is great: but last time i've checked you have not the degree of control you can get in KS, and sometimes the gcode is not as good as KS.
Yes, Slic3r makes beautiful paths and has many features, some of them are sorely missing in Ks (hex infill, top/botton thickness, variable layer thickness): yet it is not as reliable as KS, especially on large models (and sometimes it takes ages to slice).
Other "easy" slicers are simply a joke into everyday professional printing.
If Mac is giving you problems, there are cheap PCs that run KS effortlessy and reliably.
Just wish Lonesock to be back soon.
Best Regards

Re: KISSlicer 1.5 Beta 2 - in development
I hear you. and agree. I did try going back to Slic3r but to configure it from scratch, do test prints, etc... was just too much. I decided to just go back to a previous KS release. and that weird mac video issue went away. I panicked there because I know there are mac users that can't use KS because the video issue is persistent. but later on KS worked fine. I know 1.5 is beta but it was discouraging to see (and have to struggle) with a print for an order with a tight deadline that I couldn't slice in KS. Talk about surprised, but 1.5 is beta so I shouldn't have been using it for important print jobs. lesson learned (again).Davide Ardizzoia wrote:Frankly speaking, I've tried them all before commiting to KS (Cura, Slic3r, Simplify).

Re: KISSlicer 1.5 Beta 2 - in development
I stopped using KS stable version in 2014.
If you print for a living, you should really consider a WinPc to use beta... I wouldn't go back for any reason to *stable* version.

Re: KISSlicer 1.5 Beta 2 - in development
I can use the 1.5 beta on my Mac now. the video problem went away. I wonder how well it works on win in parallels on the Mac. I will fire that up as a contingency. but there are peculiarities in 1.5 beta that can be a challenge too like adjusting over sampling in cases where in printable gcode is generated. it just takes more time to sort out if the beta doesn't generate good gcode. plus I feel I have to really check the gcode in a print simulator just to make sure it's going to print ok. all more time I have to spend which reduces my ability to take on paid print jobs. migrating back to slic3r is too much overhead at the moment but I may do it just as a contingency.
