Nozzle stops for a bit after the 1st layer leaving a small b

Post by a4jp.com »

When I print the 1st layer of almost any model, it looks okay but at the end of the 1st layer the print nozzle stops on top of model for a short while leaving a blob of PLA just before the other layers start printing. Is this to do with the keep warm setting?

Is your first layer temp lower than the main print temp?

No, I made the temp almost the same at the main temp to try and reduce the time it stops for now.

PLA

Main: 210
First Layer: 212
Keep-Warm: 210
Bed: 65

Any ideas would be great. I can't figure out why it stops after that 1st slow layer before it speeds up and prints beautifully.

Here is a bit of the code when it stops after the 1st layer and waits for some reason.

Maybe it has something to do with this line: [INFO] RECV: echo:Active Extruder: 0

No, that means that the first extruder is active (computers like to start counting from 0).
But what cought my eye was this:

Code: Select all

[INFO] SENT: N258 M109 S210*100
[INFO] RECV: T:211.7 E:0 W:?
[INFO] RECV: T:211.7 E:0 W:?

[INFO] RECV: T:211.7 E:0 W:?
[INFO] RECV: T:211.7 E:0 W:?
[INFO] RECV: T:211.2 E:0 W:?
[INFO] RECV: T:210.8 E:0 W:9
[INFO] RECV: T:210.8 E:0 W:8
[INFO] RECV: T:210.0 E:0 W:7
[INFO] RECV: T:210.0 E:0 W:6
[INFO] RECV: T:209.8 E:0 W:5
[INFO] RECV: T:209.3 E:0 W:4
[INFO] RECV: T:209.3 E:0 W:3
[INFO] RECV: T:209.3 E:0 W:2
[INFO] RECV: T:209.3 E:0 W:1
[INFO] RECV: T:209.2 E:0 W:0
There's a W parameter there that seems to count down until what seems like a stabilization period. That should be set on your printer firmware.
What printer and firmware is it?

It's a Japanese printer: Scoovo X9H. It runs Marlin 1.0.0 and has a RAMBo board. I can't change the firmware yet but after I hope I can. Can you see any way around this countdown problem?

I didn't get this problem in Slic3r so maybe there is something in Kisslicer that can help or some G-Code.

Well, if you know it works fine in Slic3r, you could replicate your settings there (first layer temp 2 degrees higher than the rest) and see what g-code comes out of it and then compare those two.

You propably also don't need those funky g-code commands during the extruder swap (first layer to second with temp change also counts as that): M542, M551 and M543. Marlin doesnt normally understand those.

I commented out everything from

Printer G-Code > Select Extruder

and

Printer G-Code > Deselect Extruder

with semi-colons and maybe everything is good now.

Thank you very much for the advice Mikk36.
