PLEASE READ - New Users and Anti-Spam Policy

Post by pjr »

Dear Users

This forum is managed in my spare time - something I don't have very much of :( As a consequence, we have made a few changes which we sincerely hope will not inconvenience genuine users of this forum.

Firstly, we have made some changes to the new user registration process which hopefully will deter spambots.

Secondly, we have now allowed guest users to view images and download files.

Thirdly, we will introduce a policy to "prune" all user accounts created more than 10 days ago (at the time of the pruning) that have not created any posts. This policy will come into effect from the New Year.

The logic behind the second and third points is that there may be many users who just want to read, learn, view images and maybe download files. These users now do not require an account to do this. The users who wish to create an account can do so, but they will be included in the "pruning" if they don't post. Any accounts that are "pruned" can always be re-created.

If anyone has any thoughts/comments/suggestions, please reply on this thread.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Peter

Will you send out a message so we registered users can post to avoid being pruned?

Absolutely. We have many forum "users" who have not even logged in. These are the intended targets for pruning; unfortunately, they can only be identified individually and not as a batch, so we have to take the least-worst option and that is users who haven't posted anything at all since their registration.

Garry, you, and all the other registered users who have created a post/topic have nothing to worry about :)

Actually, we don't believe that anyone who just wants to view the forums have anything to worry about, as their experience will now not be any different as they don't have to log in to view images and download files.

Do you have to post every week or is it necessary to post?

No. The "pruning" will only be applied to users with a total of zero posts. If you have, at any time, created a post, you will not be "pruned".
