New Version CubeItModV6.05

Post by Giovanni V. »

Hi,
I had to print hundreds of parts with very complex surfaces, the way CubeitmodV6.03 managed this wasn't good that's why I've developed this new version.
The "Solid" and "Infill straight" paths are now calculated with the same and new algorithm but you can still adjust them differently using Infill%, ShortInfill%, S/I/R% and ShortSolid%.
To have a perfect solid surface on short, medium and long paths I had to give more control parameters, now the prefix section into KS looks like this :

; InterfaceSpeed [mm/s] = 25
; ShortSolid% = 35
; ShortInfill% = 20
; Exp = 1.4
; VShift = 1.11
; HShift = 0.3
; HighLimit = 1.11
; SmallLoopSpeed = 4
; LoopSegLength = 0.4
; LoopSegAngle = 22
^Firmware:V1.07
G21
G90

The parameters for the Solid path are now : Solid% ( into Matl tab ), ShortSolid%, Exp, VShift, HShift, HighLimit.
To help you set them use the Excel file, print one part like "finetune.stl", if the surface is not perfect open the Excel file, enter into the excel file all the parameters like you have used to slice the printed part, press the button "Copy New to Compare", now look at the surface of the part you printed, determine the areas where there's too much extrusion and the areas where there's not enough extrusion, measure the path lengths on these areas, change the yellow parameters for the Solid correction to change the curve, if you want increase the extrusion on a path length the curve must go up, to decrease go down.
Once you have changed the curve the way you want, change the settings into KS like those into Excel, print again and if needed repeat the correction.
I'm very happy with this version, got very beautiful parts while other people with other printers could not do the same.

The settings are Speed related, if you change the speeds you have to tune again the parameters.

The Excel curb has steps because it emulates the way the Cubex works, the Cubex has a speed of 18mm/s or 19mm/s or a RPM of 1.2 or 1.3 but no intermediate values, as the values make jumps the curb make steps.

As always your feedback are more than welcome.

Happy printing.

Giovanni

p.s. USE ONLY WITH KISSLICER v1.5 beta 2.20 or HIGHER

Excelent news and very well explained.
Happy to test.
Thank you very much.

My first attempt with V6.05. I used the materials provided, other than changing the material diameter to 1.75 to better match my non-stock filament.

Looks very nice, except for the initial part of each layer where I get the impression I need something better for the M227/228 values...

Here are a couple of extra images. I have been having problems with inter-layer adhesion. Also an interesting failure of the infill.

I include the BFB files which might be of interest.

Yes this is a problem with M227&228, if you have good values of M227/228 for this filament from older Cubeitmod you can use them with Cubeitmod6.05 because there are no changes on the way the seam is managed.

The changes for this version are on solid, infill, interface and raft paths.

The settings into the ini files posted with Cubeitmod V6.05 are for a particular PLA, the 3DInk PLA, it requires different settings than other PLA.
Here the test parts with the 3DInk :

and here some small parts, still with 3DInk PLA, with with very difficult irregular surfaces, but CubeitmodV6.05 managed them very well and I've been able to print hundreds of these parts :

To print with other materials you better change M227 & M228 and seam gap and depth. If you have M227 & M228 , seam gap & depth of an older version of Cubeitmod that work good for your filament just use them with Cubeitmod 6.05 because the seam and M227&228 work exactly like into the older versions.

Hi Giovanni

When you say the filament is 3DInk PLA, is this the original filament from 3DSystems or from an supplier called 3DInk?

I'm still having difficulties finding the right values for my filament from 3DSystems. M227/M228 and seam and gap

3DInk is a supplier.

I think we should create a common database to help find the good M227/M228 and seam and gap.

you can post pics of your parts with the settings you used, maybe I can help you with the settings.

Hei Giovanni

I just printet the finetune2-4mm.stl on my X.
Layer height 0.1 (I Know it should have been 0.09 or 0.12)
Style profile: PLA Thickness 0.1 Width 0.3
Material profile: PLA 3Dsystems Thickness 0.1 Width 0.3

I have added two pictures of the result.
All my settings are a stored here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kq5jzvd1cwnw ... KLG9a?dl=0

Hi,
first I've to say the result is not bad at all.
The waves on the surface are probably a mechanical problem and are not related to KS/Cubeitmod.
Check the belt tension and put some grease on the guide bars for X and Y axis.

Are you sure the part was printed with "Material profile: PLA 3Dsystems Thickness 0.1 Width 0.3" ? because the ExtMap still shows PLA 0.2 width 0.5 !

With the help of the Excel file you can find the parameters to increase a little the RPM/Speed ratio for those solid lengths where you have small holes, longer segments looks OK :
