Fishing-net alike problem

Post by 3dwim »

Hi All,

I have a strange problem with the gcode generated by KISSlicer.
Suddenly at one single layer, it generates a small piece of code
which looks like a fishing net hanging in the air. I had this on
a large but not really complicated print and partly I managed to
scale it down, generating a smaller result with he same problem.
I include a photo of what I've seen. In my large print this is
repeated 12 times.

The large print consists of 20 similar sub-objects, all square
walls in a 5x4 pattern, 12 are infected, the rest is clean.
Most of the "fishnets" look the same, but some are smaller.
Scaling the object down to a 2x1 set, I get one without the fishnet,
the second with the fishnet, see attached photo.

The total object is designed in SketchUp, one sub-object was
created and then copied multiple times. As I suspected everything
in the chain and this results wondered me, I used Meshlab to inspect
my .stl file, which looks OK. Then I studied the .gcode file in
detail using Repetier Host software and by layer ny layer examination
I found that specifically layer 82 goes wrong. Out-of-the-blue the
fishnet is there generated without any reason (as far as I see it).

I first wondered why/how this anomaly happens and second why some
sub-objects show it and some do not.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? And how do I stop it?

- SketchUp 15.1.104, export to STL with the STL plug-in
- KISSlicer different version tested: 1.4.5.10, 1.5beta1, 1.5beta3
- Printed on a Felix 3.0
- Inspected with Repetier Host Mac 0.56
- Inspected with Meshlab 1.3.3

If someone wants to look at it in detail, I can drop the .skp, .stl,
.gcode file, etc.

Thanks in advance for looking in it, regards,
Wim.

can you post your stl? looks like a model error. Does KS error flag the model?

not attached, i think you need a minimum number of posts before you can add attachments, not 100% sure.

Stl files from Sketchup are known to usually contain some type of mesh error.

Don't know where those attachments have gone to....

I tried to re-attach the .stl- and/or .skp-files which show the problem, but at all extensions I try the kisslicertalk web-site doesn't like my files, it complains on every extension I try to use, even .txt. So I stored these two files at: http://www.wimvd.nl/KSbug/test-bug2.skp and http://www.wimvd.nl/KSbug/test-bug2.stl so hopefully you can find them there.

KS does a little protesting, but not at the point where the errors appears. It shows some yellow lines ("only 1 triangle shares this edge"), but when I inspect the STL-file in Meshlab, it doesn't show up. Problem is to go back to the SketchUp file with that message: you cannot map it specifically, so you cannot change the problem. At least I don't know how or what......

Wim.

self intersecting faces errors. Here is the repaired stl. Give it a try. Ran a test slice of it, no out of place paths were generated.

Not sure why Meshlab doesn't select these faces. I use 3DS Max for error checking.

Sliced it, ran the same checks (Repetier) on it. Will print tomorrow because printer is busy.

Was this just running it through 3DS Max, or did you have any work on it?
