Parametric contact points for brim

Post by neel »

I like brims a lot to ensure sticking. But it is ennoying to remove them to clean the printed part.

One improvement could be to implement contact points. Instead of printing the brim all along the perimeter of the printed part you could set a given number of contact points and also their width (like 1 concact point of 3mm width every 2cm). The brim size would automaticaly enlarge to create gaps when no contact is wanted and come back to normal path to create the contact points. The idea is to keep the sticking benefit of a large surface brim while helping removing it at the end of the print.

A second improvement would be to be able to set forbidden areas for brim. It currently draws all around the parts but often there are areas you would like to protect from being "brimed" because you know it has difficult access to remove the brim after the print. This could also be implemented the other way around: you first draw the brim around the full perimeter and then let the user select areas where to delete brim (and reslice after that if needed).
