Supports with PETG

Hey everyone, I have some eSun PETG I want to print with. I have been using PLA and have a rough time removing supports from a model. The supports I get from S3D are much easier to remove. Any tips in general for the best settings to change, and any tips or printing supports with KISSlicer and PETG? I am using MHackney's PETG profile for the Ultibots D300VS.

Hey, I do have a lot of experience with supports for PETG. I'm traveling for work so I don't have direct access to my profiles. I'll see what I can find though. But one thing is to make the Z gap larger. I recall that I'm using 1.8mm for 2mm layers. PETG is sticky so you need to leave a lot of room so it doesn't stick. But there are other tips but I don't recall them all off the top of my head.

I’ll try making the Z gap larger for my PLA prints. I haven’t tried PETG yet with the KISSlicer profiles, but I’ll see what the gap is and give it a shot, hopefully tonight.

Any other tips for supports with PETG? I am having a devil of a time removing them as well.

Question about Zgap- what is the difference between Zgap and 1st Zgap?

Wouldn't the Zgap be the same concept as 1st Zgap since we are talking about the vertical gap between the object and the support? If you are supporting a sphere or simialr curved surface, then where is the footprint of the 1st Zgap end and the regular Zgap begin?

The previous manual says "Gap (Z): the vertical clearance between support and part. Usually this value is a fraction of layer thickness."

So is this to mean 50% or 0.1mm for a 0.2mm later thickness height?

What if you are using variable layer thicknesses like 50% to 75% of 0.4mm extrusion width?

Thanks in advance

Dennis

Ironic that we can't attach ini (or text) files here! I wanted to attach my PETG profile.

So here it is. Copy and paste this into a new text file and name it EXACTLY "Basic PETG Support.ini"

Code: Select all

[Basic PETG Support]
linked_printers=D300VS+ fast fill - slow perimeters
support_sheathe=0
support_density=2
use_lower_interface=1
solid_interface=0
support_inflate_mm=0
support_gap_mm=0.5
interface_gap_mm=-75
support_angle_deg=0
support_z_max_mm=-1
sheathe_z_max_mm=-1
raft_mode=0
prime_pillar_mode=0
pillar_placement=3
raft_inflate_mm=4
raft_hi_stride_mm=1.5
raft_hi_thick_mm=0.25
raft_hi_width_mm=0.35
raft_lo_stride_mm=2.5
raft_lo_thick_mm=0.25
raft_lo_width_mm=0.5
brim_mm=0.4
brim_ht_mm=0.2
brim_gap_mm=6
brim_fillet=0
interface_band_mm=2
interface_Z_gap_mm=0.15
first_Z_gap_mm=0.15
raft_interface_layers=0
raft_interface_bond=0
brim_latch=0
interface_angle_deg=45
interface_stride_mm=1.5
interface_width_mm=0.5
interface_1st_layer_width_mm=0.5
profile_date=2017-10-26 10:38:52
Give it a try and see how you make out.

THANK YOU!

Looking at the settings, I see differences in my 2 ZGap's and interference widths. Now I have something to compare to.
